Avoriaz Video Report : 13th February 2013
Perfect conditions greeted us on the hill today. Deep fresh snow in the off piste that let you glide like a ninja; silent, stealthy and perfectly groomed grippy pistes that creaked and squeaked like a frightened squirrel. After two weeks of almost continuous snowfall the skies finally cleared in earnest and we had bluebird conditions with perfect snow. The good news is the next five days are set to be the same: PERFECT!

Avoriaz Video Report : 13th January 2012
Friday the 13th hasn't been unlucky here, in fact the whole week has been awesome. Clear skies and cold temperatures have kept last week's snow in good condition and everyone seems to have left the Portes du Soleil meaning that the pistes are quiet and there are no queues for the lifts.

Avoriaz Video Report : 20th January 2012
We have had sunshine all week in the Portes du Soliel but the snow clouds are back and we have almost half a metre forecast over the next 18 hours. Hopefully by Saturday morning we'll have snow all the way down in Morzine town and plenty of fresh powder on the hill.

Avoriaz Video Report : 22nd December 2011
We've had almost non-stop snow for the last two weeks but the forecasters are predicting clear skies and sunshine for the weekend and the beginning of next week. Conditions will be great as we still have huge amounts of snow and once the sun comes out the skiing is only going to get better.

Although we are in the busiest period of the season the slopes are not too busy. They are however quite slow and slushy down low. The higher slopes, especially the shaded ones, have still got winter snow on them but the lower ones are very spring like.

The sun is shining the pistes are well covered in firm, grippy snow and the whole area is up and running. Skiing and boarding conditions in the Portes du Soleil are perfect AND we have fifty centimetres of new snow coming in this Friday. It looks like 2012 is going to start well.

Avoriaz Video Report : 29th March 2012
A friend helped me with this weeks video and for most of the day I felt like Tom Cruise in Minority Report. Computer giggery-pokery aside, we still have great snow depths, the sun has been shining all week, Basscamp festival is just around the corner AND we have the Volcom Stone Peanut Butter and Rail Jam this weekend.

Avoriaz Video Report : 5th April 2012
It has been a cloudy week with quite a lot of rain here in the Portes du Soleil and although this has washed some of the snow away we still have complete home runs and more snow than we had at any point last season. The sun will return on Friday and for the beginning of next week.

Avoriaz Video Report : 6th February 2013
The last time the sun shone was on Sunday. Since then it has not stopped snowing and if you like your powder deep, light and everywhere then you are in luck. The tree skiing is epic at the moment and although the piste skiing is a little on the grey side there is more sun coming towards the end of the week and next week should be brilliant.

In the week before the busy period of the season starts the pistes have been empty and in excellent condition. Over in La Tour we've had some great skiing and with more cold weather and clear skies on the way it looks like we have more on the horizon.

Avoriaz Video Report : 9th March 2012
It's the last few days of the busy holiday period here in the Portes du Soleil. Soon we'll be back to quiet pistes, short lift lines and smooth runs. The forecast is for great weather over the next week, we have good snow coverage and plenty to look forward to. Roll on my favourite part of the season.

Avoriaz Video Report : Thu 10th Dec 2009
Avoriaz opens her lifts completely this weekend and it promises to be an all singing all dancing start to the ski season proper. France's first ever freestyle snowmobile demonstration, the last stop of the Rock On tour and a ski festival all herald in the opening weekend.

Avoriaz Video Report : Thu 11th Feb 2010
Very mixed weather has been the story of the week. The snow however has been consistently good. The forecast is for low temperatures and clear skies which should let us enjoy the new snow.Any questions, comments or Valentines Day proclamations of love to james@skinets.com

Avoriaz Video Report : Thu 18th Feb 2010
The half term week is coming to and end and it has been a week of mixed weather and snow conditions. More snow this weekend should help top up the pistes which have taken a bit of a pounding this week as hundreds of tourists rode over them and temperatures rose.
Avoriaz Video Report : Thu 23rd Jul 2009
We have had it all this week; sunshine and lightning, clear skies and thunder but the forecast for the weekend is good and with a Strongman competitionin in Avoriaz and plenty of walking and cycling available you are sure to have a great week in the Portes du Soleil.

Avoriaz Video Report : Thu 27th Mar 2008
This week Kelsey reports from the Nyon Telepherique. It has been snowing almost non-stop for the last few days and as a result we have had plenty of powder skiing and snowboarding here in the Portes Du Soleil. With more forecasted for tonight, the weekend looks like its going to be a good time to visit.
Avoriaz Video Report : Thu 31st Dec 2009
Although the weather down in Morzine has been, frankly, rubbish it turns out the snow fall up high has been fantastic. There is plenty of the fresh, fluffy stuff around and although it is a little heavy in some areas it is light powder if you head over to Switzerland.
Avoriaz Video Report : Thu 3rd Dec 2009

Avoriaz Video Report : Thu 5th Mar 2009
Snow has started to fall again after a week of warm temperatures, which will top up some already great conditions on the pistes. Although the light this week has been pretty poor the snow is still in excellent condition and when this storm finishes we are due some sunny weather.
Avoriaz Video Report : Thu 6th Mar 2008

We had quite a heavy snowfall yesterday and although the forecast was for more snow today the skies did their best to clear. On the hill the early winter’s snowfall is evident and all the pistes are in excellent condition and much of the off piste areas are still untouched with lashings of the soft stuff.

Avoriaz Video Report: 1st March 2012
The sun continues to shine on the Portes du Soleil and as a result some of the slopes are suffering, becoming quite slushy and chopped up. I actually quite like spring slopes, I'm just not ready for them yet. Luckily the temperatures are set to drop and the forecast is for a little more snow over the weekend.

Avoriaz Video Report: 20th February 2013
We have had beautiful weather and perfect ski conditions for the last four days. Clear skies and creaky, grippy pistes have greeted the holiday crowds and even though it has been one of the most popular weeks of the year I have not encountered any queues that gave me too much cause for concern.

Avoriaz Video Report: 21st January 2009
Although Monday saw the Portes du Soleil covered in rain clouds, Tuesday heralded in lower temperatures and when I awoke this morning the skies had cleared and there was a foot of fresh just waiting to be tracked.

The mountain bike festival is back again and the 35, 45 and 75km rides will be up and running all weekend and from now on the lifts will be open daily.

Today was the first sunny day in a week but it was a real beauty. We have had scattered snow flurries and cloudy weather for the last week but this has meant that the snow has stayed deep even at the bottom of the Pleney. The snow is softer now, as you would expect for this time of year but there is still plenty of it.

2011 London Ski Show
Winter starts this weekend in London with the annual Ski and Snowboard Show. This year the show is back in its old venue of Earl's Court and, as usual, there is plenty to do. To help you make the most of the show we went ahead and came up with a list of our top five attractions for this year.

Avoriaz Video Report : 19th December 2012
To quote Ice Cube; "Today was a good day." Maybe one of the best I have had in the last four years. Epic powder, empty slopes and clear blue skies. Hopefully there will be more days ahead like this one but the forecast doesn't look great at the moment . Luckily the bad weather is only due to last a day or two and then the sun is set to return.

Avoriaz Video Report : 2nd January 2013
It's been a great start to the New Year in the Portes du Soleil with 20cm of fresh snow falling last night. The conditions both on and off piste are excellent and although it's pretty busy up on the hill there are a few quiet spots if you head away from crowds.

Avoriaz Video Report: 23rd January 2013
We have a contender for best week of the season. Not an easy title to claim as we have already had some amazing conditions and great days and it's only January 23rd. If you want to enjoy more great snow and events like night skiing and the torch lit descents then just come to the Portes du Soleil.

Every year, when the lifts open, I rush excitedly to the top of the hill, strap into my board and set off for the first run of the new season. The cold, clear air in my nose and the sun on my cheeks I can't keep the smile off my face as the fresh snow creaks under my board. The whole day lies ahead from first lifts to last call. Or it would if I wasn't sweating, panting and massaging the cramp out of my calves at the end of the first run.
