Mountain Biking in Avoriaz

Avoriaz is set in one of the world's largest mountain biking destinations, with almost 600km of marked trails stretching across France and Switzerland. Riders can tackle everything from flowing green and blue runs to technical downhill tracks and challenging enduro descents, with lift access making it easy to maximise your time on the trails. The resort is also home to the famous Crankworx festival, cementing its reputation as a world-class biking destination. Bike hire shops offer the latest downhill and enduro bikes, while local guides and coaches can help you discover hidden singletrack, improve your technique and make the most of this vast trail network.

Things to do in Avoriaz

In addition to headline sports that everyone loves to do when they come to Avoriaz, there are also a number of different activities on offer to visitors. 

Explore the mountains from a different perspective on guided horseback rides through forests and alpine meadows, and the nearby Morzine-Avoriaz Golf Club offers a scenic nine-hole course set high in the mountains, with spectacular views across the valley. Spend a relaxing day fishing in the area's mountain lakes and rivers, or visit one of the forest adventure courses that feature rope bridges, zip lines, climbing challenges and treetop obstacles. During winter, outdoor ice rinks offer a classic alpine activity that's suitable for all ages.

Walking in Avoriaz

Walking, hiking and trail running are among the best ways to experience Avoriaz and the wider Portes du Soleil. From the resort, you can follow high-altitude trails to dramatic viewpoints, explore the striking limestone formations of the Hauts-Forts, or wander through the protected Lac de Montriond valley. The area is also home to the Tour des Dents Blanches, a spectacular multi-day circuit linking France and Switzerland, whilst shorter routes reveal alpine lakes, wildflower meadows and hidden mountain hamlets. With lift access opening up higher terrain and local guides offering everything from family walks to trail running sessions, Avoriaz is an outstanding base for exploring the mountains on foot.

Upcoming Events

There is plenty going on in Avoriaz throughout the year. The resort plays host to a number of winter music festivals which take place across the resort and pistes, namely Rock the Pistes and Snowboxx in March. In summer, the Pass'portes du Soleil mountain bike festival is the biggest event for bikers, with the occasional Tour de France stage passing nearby.
