Avoriaz doesn’t have its own campsites or motorhome areas but you’ll find options close by. The nearest campsite is in Montriond, around a 10 minute drive from Morzine, with further sites in Les Gets and Saint Jean d’Aulps that open in both summer and winter. If you’re travelling by motorhome, the official aire in Morzine on the Route de la Plagne is open year round. Stays are paid in the main seasons but free in between.

If you’re heading to Avoriaz with the kids, convenience is key. The resort’s traffic-free layout means little legs don’t have to dodge cars, and you’ll never be far from the lifts, ski schools or a hot chocolate stop. Staying close to the nursery slopes can make mornings much easier, especially if your children have lessons booked. The Festival sector is a great choice for families, with apartments just a short stroll from the tourist office, piste-side restaurants and ski school meeting points. Wherever you stay in Avoriaz, you’re never more than five minutes from the essentials, so you can spend less time walking in ski boots and more time enjoying the snow.
If you want to keep the costs down, Avoriaz has plenty of affordable places to stay without missing out on the slopes. Many of the older apartment blocks offer great value for money and are just a few metres from the pistes, making them ideal if you want to ski straight from your door. Studios are usually the cheapest option and can often sleep four to six people, perfect for sharing costs with friends or family. For chalet stays, you’ll often find the best deals down in Les Prodains, right by the lift that whisks you up to the resort. Even if you choose a more economical spot, you’re never more than a five minute walk or ski from the action.
If you love the idea of clipping off your skis right outside your door, Avoriaz is made for you. Almost all of the accommodation here is ski-in ski-out thanks to its pedestrianised, snow-covered streets. It was designed that way back in the late 1960s, when the architects set out to create a car-free resort where the streets themselves double as ski runs. Whether you’re in a cosy apartment or a chalet with friends, you can get straight from your doorstep on skis to the lifts in the morning and ski right back home at the end of the day.
Avoriaz has a lively après-ski scene and, because the resort is small and pedestrianised, it’s easy to stroll from one bar to the next. Many of the main spots are in the Portes du Soleil building, where Globe Trotters and Shooters Bar are favourites for après, especially when the Dutch and Swedish visitors are in town. You’ll also find some great places to grab a drink in the Falaise sector, such as the Chapka and La Falaise.
The villages and towns around Avoriaz offer a great mix of traditional charm and ski convenience, with accommodation to suit all needs. Avoriaz itself sits high on a plateau with easy access to the rest of the Portes du Soleil ski area, while Morzine below is a lively mountain town with historical buildings, a weekly market and a wide choice of chalets, apartments and hotels. Nearby Les Gets is smaller and snowier, full of pretty chalets, and Montriond, Les Lindarets, Chatel and St Jean d’Aups provide quieter, scenic options with flexible accommodation for families, couples and groups.

The resort plays host to a number of winter music festivals which take place across the resort and pistes, namely Rock the Pistes and Snowboxx in March. In summer, the Pass'portes du Soleil mountain bike festival is the biggest event for bikers, with the occasional Tour de France stage passing nearby.
