Les Gets is a traditional mountain village in the French Alps with a past shaped by forestry, farming and cheese making. Its name comes from old Savoyard words for the channels once used to slide timber down from the forests and for centuries life here revolved around the land. Things changed in 1936 when the first ski lift, the Boule de Gomme, opened and skiing slowly took over from logging. Today Les Gets still holds on to its Alpine character while welcoming visitors year round for skiing, biking and mountain adventures.
Les Gets offers a mix of local culture, history and traditions to discover during your stay. You can join a free guided tour of the old town, visit cheese cellars to learn how classic Savoyard cheeses are made or take a magical nighttime walk through the enchanted forest that is Alta Lumina.
