Transition festival got off to a flying start in Avoriaz on Sunday night with an incredible set from Dizzee Rascal. It’s the first time the festival has been in the resort and it certainly seems it’s got a decent future ahead of it.

Thousands of students from around the UK descended on Avoriaz for the event, which is organised by the same people behind festivals such as Snowbombing in Austria and Festival Number 6 in Wales. After a rocky start with accommodation allocation problems, spirits didn’t seem to be dampened. With everyone turning up in time to watch the Dizzee set which lasted about an hour.

He played a host of new tracks alongside some of his more famous tunes like 'Dance Wiv me' and 'Bassline Junkie'. He finished off with an amazing version of 'Bonkers', which the crowd had clearly been hankering for from the beginning.

A special shout out goes to singer Daniel Pearce who brought another level to the Dizzee tracks. He performed most of the set with Rascal and his vocals were incredible!

Avoriaz itself looked stunning for the occasion, with Christmas lights twinkling in the trees and the iconic rocks lit up especially for the festival. Most of the festival goers weren’t kitted out for the freezing temperatures – but again- they didn’t seem to be put off! I imagine there will be more hats, coats and gloves on tonight!

The Festival runs for the rest of this week and there’s still loads of amazing stuff on the programme. There’s a daily rave in the Aquariaz water park, after hours raves in some of the many bars around the resort and DJ’s performing on Terraces overlooking the pistes. Ben Pearce, Wilkinson and T-williams are just some of the acts left to perform this week.

The season really is getting off to an amazing start in Avoriaz with the Rock on Snowboard Tour and Transition already bringing the crowds in. More of the lifts open this weekend as well and there’s loads to look forward to across the rest of the Winter too.

Red Bull’s Crushed Riders Ice Cup hits the resort in January and in March, Snowboxx Festival heads to town. So don’t worry, if you missed raving with Dizzee, there’s loads more fun to be had!
