Avoriaz continues to look very wintery as March settles across the Portes du Soleil. Sitting high at 1800 metres, the resort remains fully snow covered and the surrounding cliffs and bowls above the village are holding a deep base. After the busy holiday period the slopes feel a little quieter, and the pistes across the Avoriaz sector are skiing reliably with good coverage across the main connections into Switzerland and down towards Morzine.
Snow and Weather Summary
Current snow depths are around 120 to 150 cm in resort at 1800 metres, with between 190 and 240 cm on the upper slopes above 2200 metres. Higher areas towards the Swiss border and the Hauts Forts sector continue to carry the deepest coverage. A light snowfall of around 5 to 10 cm in recent days has refreshed the surface on higher exposed terrain and improved grip on open pistes.
Temperatures on the upper mountain have typically ranged from minus 10 to minus 5 degrees, with between minus 3 and plus 2 degrees in the resort depending on sunshine. The freezing level has generally remained between 1500 and 1900 metres during the day and has dropped overnight which helps preserve piste quality after grooming. Winds have been mostly light to moderate with occasional stronger gusts on the highest ridges but conditions have remained stable overall.
On piste, the best skiing is found across the higher Avoriaz plateau and the open slopes towards Chavanette where snow remains firm and consistent throughout most of the day. North facing slopes are holding particularly well and provide reliable conditions from morning through to the afternoon. Runs descending towards Morzine ski best earlier in the day before softening slightly when temperatures rise.
