Avoriaz is feeling properly wintry as the year comes to a close, with cold air locked in and the resort sitting comfortably above the cloud on many days. The high altitude setting is paying off right now, with the surrounding bowl looking well covered and the village slopes holding a consistent white look from top to bottom. The season has built steadily rather than dramatically, and conditions feel settled and reliable, especially compared to lower resorts in the Portes du Soleil.
Snow and Weather Summary
Snow depths in Avoriaz are currently sitting at around 80 to 100 cm at resort level, building to roughly 120 to 150 cm across higher terrain in the Portes du Soleil. There has been limited fresh snowfall in recent days, so most skiing is on a consolidated base that has been well maintained by regular grooming. Daytime temperatures at resort level have been staying below freezing, with colder overnight lows helping preserve snow quality, while temperatures higher up remain firmly wintery throughout the day. Freezing levels are generally low, often below 1,000 m, which is ideal for maintaining snow at all elevations in the Avoriaz sector. Winds have been mostly light to moderate, with occasional stronger gusts on exposed ridges, but overall conditions have been stable for lift operations. On the pistes, snow is firm and grippy in the mornings, softening slightly on sun exposed slopes by late morning, while north facing runs and shaded areas keep a colder, chalky feel well into the afternoon.
