Avoriaz feels properly settled into winter as Christmas week arrives. The resort is fully snow covered, the village streets are white underfoot, and there is a steady hum of skiers heading up early each morning. With its high altitude and north facing slopes, Avoriaz has held onto snow well through December and the build up to Christmas has brought a sense of confidence that conditions are in good shape for the festive period.
Snow and Weather Summary
Current snow depths in Avoriaz are strong for this stage of the season, with around 150 cm reported at altitude and approximately 80 cm around resort level. Recent snowfall earlier in the week added a fresh layer across the area, particularly above mid mountain, and cold overnight temperatures have helped the snow settle and ski well. Daytime temperatures have been staying close to or just below freezing at altitude, which is keeping piste conditions consistent, especially during the morning. Lower slopes are also in good condition compared to many Decembers, with coverage far more reliable thanks to both natural snowfall and sustained cold weather. Winds have generally been light, allowing lifts to operate smoothly and keeping the snow surface in good shape.
