Avoriaz is holding onto its winter feel better than many neighbouring resorts thanks to its higher elevation, with good coverage still visible across most of the ski area. The resort has shifted into a more relaxed spring rhythm, with quieter slopes and longer days, but conditions remain solid in the right places. The surrounding peaks still look well covered, particularly on higher and north facing terrain.
Snow and Weather Summary
Snow depths are currently around 80 to 100 cm at resort level at 1800 metres, with between 180 and 240 cm across the upper slopes above 2400 metres. The higher sectors towards Hauts Forts and the Swiss border continue to hold the most reliable snow. There has been very little recent snowfall, with only a light dusting at altitude over the past week.
Temperatures have ranged from minus 6 to minus 2 degrees on the upper slopes and between plus 1 and plus 8 degrees in the resort depending on sunshine. The freezing level has been sitting between 2200 and 2600 metres during the day before dropping overnight, helping maintain a good surface on groomed pistes. Winds have generally been light, with occasional moderate gusts on exposed ridges.
Skiing conditions are best above 2000 metres where the snow remains firm in the mornings and softens gradually into the afternoon. The higher runs around Hauts Forts and towards Switzerland are skiing particularly well. Lower slopes heading back towards Morzine soften more quickly and can become heavier later in the day, especially on sunnier aspects.
