Over the past few days, Avoriaz has experienced mainly clear skies with milder daytime temperatures, although it’s been cold at night down to around -1°C with an average freezing level of 1600m. These conditions have resulted in a freeze-thaw cycle, particularly affecting snow quality on the lower ski slopes.
Upcoming weather in Avoriaz
Overnight and this morning, we’ve had a light snowfall in Avoriaz of around 8cm, due to a cold front from the north west. Top tips for skiers this week in Avoriaz
- Quiet pistes: Take advantage of the January lull! Ski between 12:00 and 14:00, and you'll feel like you have the mountain to yourself.
- Snow conditions: While the pistes arebeing really well-maintained, some spots can be quite hard-packed and icy. For a smoother ride, stick to the softer snow along the edges.
- Gear up: Pack both low light and sunny lenses. Different thickness of layers is key to adapting to the changing temperatures, especially with the wind chill on certain lifts.
- Stay warm: Even with mild daytime temperatures, the breeze can make it feel much colder. A buff or neck warmer will keep you comfortable on those breezy lifts.
- Safety first: Avalanche risk is currently between 2 and 3 (moderate/considerable) out of 5. If you plan to venture off-piste, ensure you have the proper equipment, up to date weather information, and guidance.
Make the most of these last couple of quiet ski weeks in Avoriaz.
