Avoriaz feels fully wintery after a big spell of snowfall, with the resort plateau buried, roofs edged in white, and the surrounding ridgelines looking properly loaded. The high altitude setting has really come into its own this week, and the season now feels settled and mid winter in character rather than patchy. On the mountain the skiing has a magical feel, with fresh snow underfoot and strong cover across the whole area.
Snow and Weather Summary
Snow depths are now around 200 to 230cm on the upper slopes, with approximately 140 to 170cm in resort. The recent snowfall delivered between 60 and 90cm above 1800m since last Thursday, with good accumulation right across the Portes du Soleil and windblown deposits in exposed zones. This snowfall has significantly improved coverage and snow quality across the mountain, with excellent piste conditions from top to bottom and soft, supportive snow on most runs. Daytime temperatures at altitude have been ranging between -8 and -4 degrees Celsius, with the freezing level close to 1100m, helping preserve the new snow. Winds were strong during the snowfall but have eased, allowing lift operations to run more smoothly. Despite the outstanding skiing conditions, the volume and intensity of recent snowfall have led to very high avalanche risk, particularly in off piste and uncontrolled terrain where the snowpack remains unstable.
