What's on for winter 2018/19 in Avoriaz
All the biggest events in resort for the upcoming season
Avoriaz hosts some great events each winter, from an epic opening day, to a whole host of music festivals, there's plenty to look forward to this winter.
As the resort prepares to kick of the season with the lift openings on December 14th, here's a quick rundown of some of the biggest and best things to do in Avoriaz in 2018/19.

Opening weekend
The lifts officially open in Avoriaz on Friday, December 14th, with a whole week of events planned. The weekend will be marked by the Rock on Snow festival, a three day celebration of all things skiing and snowboarding. Throught the three day event there will be gear tests from the likes of Burton, Gnu, Roxy, Oakley, Rossignol, and more. Plus plenty of live music and dancing in your ski gear. Also as part of the Rock on Snow event, Dynastar will be holding a 'Rando Nocturne' night-time ski touring event on Decenber 15th. Register at their stall on Place Jean Vuarnet, or at the Avoriaz tourist office.

Avoriaz Snow Carnival
All throughout February and March you will find a carnival atmosphere in the resort to celebrate the half term holidays with lantern shows, torchlit descents, fireworks, music and entertainment for all the family. There are a whole host of events in Avoriaz from E-bike tests, dog sled rides, archery tag, carnival parades and sledge races. Truly a magical time for families in the resort.

RFM Winter Week
For one whole week, French music radio RFM is moving to Avoriaz and bringing free live concerts with them to resort. They will be broadcasting live from the bottom of the pistes daily and bringing their famous Night Fever clubbing programme to the slopes. Seven days of outdoor concerts with world-famous headliners, this is an event not to be missed.

Rock the Piste
In 2019, the ninth edition of this radical new music festival takes place from March 17th to 23rd from 13:00 daily. Put on your skis and join the crowds throughout the Portes du Soleil. In recent years Rock the Pistes has attracted some notable artists, including Lee Scratch Perry, Rag'n'Bone Man and Babyshambles. Artists play on specially constructed stages on the pistes during the day, with gigs continuing in town and throughout the Portes Du Soleil well into the night. There is also a two-day ski treasure hunt with seventeen markers hidden around the ski area. A music festival like no other in Europe, all you need to see the gigs is your ski pass.

Snowboxx 2019
If you like snow sports, mountains and music, you are going to love Snowboxx. For the past few years, the festival has graced the slopes and brought with it some of the world’s best musicians and DJs. It introduces thousands of people each year to this incredible area and, on the March 23rd, the festival returns to Avoriaz with arguably the best line up to date. The Festival Village is an arena-style area set against a backdrop of stunning mountains and chalets.
The Village is packed with custom built snow bars, retail stalls, festival food and it’s on snow. There you will have five consecutive nights of live music with 5,000 people dancing under the stars on a blanket of snow surrounded by mountains, street food stalls and bars serving a range of ice cold drinks. As well as getting stuck into the music on offer, you can sign up for bottomless brunches, igloo parties and human bowling! The festival has got bigger and better every year and the organisers are showing their success by putting on as many social activities as they can cram in.
