The Village Igloo Morzine Avoriaz is back this winter, bringing you a fantasy attraction of ice caves that could have fallen straight out of a fairytale book.

Beautiful and unique, the Village Igloo is an annual project that occupies Les Arcs and Morzine-Avoriaz every year, bringing guests and locals of the resorts the chance to enjoy the sheer novelty of enjoying the unique environment created by a giant igloo.

Construction began on the first weekend of the new year, when the snow was plentiful enough and ready to build with. You may remember from your many efforts as a child to construct your very own snow home that building an igloo is by no means an easy task. The skill of groomers in conjunction with their expert knowledge of working with snow is crucial to construction of the igloo’s, which are then transformed into a bar, a restaurant, an art gallery and even unique overnight accommodation as part of the Igloo Village experience.

Snow is projected by a turbo mill onto inflatable ‘moulds’, which are deflated after the snow has been allowed to harden for a few days. Once the carefully planned structures are built, experts enter the igloo to begin work on the cold, white interior. Skillful teamwork between a selection of architects, carpenters, electricians, sculptors and even sound technicians bring the igloo’s to life! The artists are responsible for the final touches, carving out awe-inspiring sculptures with fascinating attention-to-detail out of snow and ice. The Grotto de Glace offers and unique art gallery setting to display some of their work, while many of the rooms boast great animals and sculptured interiors.

See the magic for yourself, and bring along all the family to visit this remarkable Igloo Village.

The Village Igloo Morzine Avoriaz opens on the 17th January 2015, and is accessible by foot and by ski at the bottom of the Arare blue piste. Take a look at the promo video here.
