Loic Bruni out of the DH competition with injury & live broadcasts of all the action
With three weeks to go till the biggest spectacle in mountain biking arrives in Les Gets, The full broadcast schedule has been announced for those unable to attend in person.
The events will all be broadcast live on crankworx.com and pinkbike.com as well as being featured on redbull.com. The schedule is as follows:
Thursday 16th June, 4:30 PM UK time:
Dual Speed and Style. Described as “the love child of dual slalom and slopestyle”, it is a race to the finish that also includes jumps, step downs and other obstacles. A time credit is available for performing a better trick than the other rider.
Friday 17th June, 7:00 PM UK time:
Pump Track Challenge, presented by Rockshox. An event where riders must get round a purpose built track without a single pedal stroke.
Saturday 18th June, 3:30 PM UK time:
Slopestyle. The big event and the one guaranteed to excite even the most casual observer. The diggers have been out and the course is already taking shape and will soon be ready for the best slopestyle riders in the world to come and show what they can do.
Expect flips, spins, whips and a combination of all three! More than 5000 cubic metres of earth have already been moved to create a course that claims to have a few surprises in store for the riders. It features an eight metre north shore drop off, three massive jumps, a log ride and a selection of huge drops. It is the second stop on the world tour and Brandon Semenuk, with a win at the first event in Rotorua, is the only rider who can challenge for the triple crown by winning all three events. However, Semenuk has yet to confirm whether or not he will be competing.
Whilst everyone will be hoping that he does compete the field without him remains very impressive featuring Nicholi Rogatkin (USA), Brett Rheeder (CAN), Thomas Genon (BEL), Logan Peat (CAN), Tomas Zejda (CZE), Sam Pilgrim (GBR), Sam Reynolds (GBR), Tomas Lemoine (FRA), Yannick Granieri (FRA), Mehdi Gani (FRA), Paul Genovese (CAN), Torquato Testa (ITA), Max Fredriksson (SWE), Anthony Messere (CAN), Szymon Godziek (POL), Diego Caverzasi (ITA), Cam Zink (USA) as well as one of the greatest names in BMX history Ryan Nyquist.
Sunday 19th June, 1:00 PM UK time:
Downhill presented by iXS. Les Gets ambassador and winner of the downhill in Rotorua Loic Bruni has unfortunately suffered a multiple break collarbone injury which will mean he is unable to defend his title. It will also mean he will miss the upcoming world cup races at Fort William and Leogang. Hopefully he will have a speedy recovery. However, it still promises to be a great race with some big name riders competing for the title.
For those lucky enough to be in town there will be plenty of other events to look forward to, starting with the opening ceremony and including The Official European Whip-Off Championships, the Light on MTB Film Festival, the Girls Night Ride with Tahnee Seagrave (the current status of the VIP Downhill ride, which was due to feature Loic Bruni, has yet to be announced. Hopefully another rider can take his place), The Mini Bikes Challenge, The E-Possible Climb, Dual Slalom as well as concerts in the evenings (acts to be announced). The full schedule can be found on our events calendar.
Everyone who has been to one of the previous Crankworx events is hugely excited to see it come to Les Gets, one of the real European homes of mountain biking, and it promises to be a great spectacle and great fun for all!
