1. Horse drawn sleigh taxis

Avoriaz is a completely pedestrianised resort, no cars, vans or lorries. The best way to travel around, especially if you have little ones or lots of luggage is by horse drawn sleigh.

You can either use them as a way of getting around the resort, where journey prices range from €7 to €13 depending on how far you want to go (luggage €4) or you can hire one for a scenic trips around the resort for €15 to €35.

Sleighs can be picked up at the entrance of the resort (“Accueil”), the outdoor parking P2, the top station of the Prodains cable car and in the centre of town.

This service operates from 08:00 to 20:00. A night service is also available which operates on a cat-tracked vehicle, 7 days per week from 20:00 - 08:00. Call to reserve and verify prices once you arrive in the resort, you cannot book in advance. All info is on the website link above.

2. La Ferme de Seraussaix

This family run farm is open for visits in summer and winter where you can take a tour or simply buy some of their delicious cheeses.

Guided visits take place in winter on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. You need to book in advance either directly with the farm or via the main tourist office in Avoriaz.

You can enjoy a light lunch of salads and platters of local cheeses and charcuterie and desserts at the farm in winter and summer. Also anytime call in for an apéro platter up until 17:00. The menu features all their own local produce.

3. Lac Montriond

Lac de Montriond is a peaceful natural retreat surrounded by cliffs and forest. Enjoy swimming, paddle boarding, walking trails, and more in this scenic lakeside spot.

Just a short drive from Morzine or Avoriaz, Lac Montriond is one of the most peaceful and picturesque spots in the valley. Surrounded by forested slopes and dramatic cliffs, the lake’s emerald green water offers a calm scenic setting with plenty to do whether you're looking for outdoor adventure or a relaxed afternoon.

You’ll find a variety of activities on and around the lake. In summer the calm waters are ideal for paddle boarding, canoeing and kayaking. Equipment can be hired on site. There is also a designated swimming area with shallow water that is safe for even the youngest visitors, making it a popular spot for families. There is a childrens playground at one end of the lake. You can join a yoga class on several days a week in summer on the deck at the Domaine de Baron and there is a cold water swimming group that meet regularly at the lake. 

On dry land you can walk the path that loops around the lake, taking in the peaceful mountain scenery and spotting local wildlife along the way. The full circuit is gentle and suitable for most ages and abilities. There is also pony riding and mini golf nearby while anglers can enjoy fishing in the well stocked lake. A fishing licence is required.

For those interested in local history and geology, the lake is part of the Chablais UNESCO Global Geopark. Along the lakeside trail you can learn more about the area’s glacial past, the story of the extravagant Baron de l’Espée and the impact of the landslide that formed the lake thousands of years ago.

Lac Montriond is equally lovely if you're simply looking to relax. Spread out a towel on the grass, enjoy a picnic or get a drink from one of the nearby cafés. The lake is easily accessed by car or by the free shuttle service that runs from Montriond village during both summer and winter seasons.

If you're visiting in August, don't miss the spectacular lakeside fireworks, a popular local event that lights up the valley and draws thousands of visitors.

Whether you’re after gentle walks, family friendly fun or time out on the water, Lac Montriond is a must visit during your stay in the area.

4. Les Gorges du Pont du Diable

A great walk through a beech forest and dramatic limestone gorges carved by the Dranse de Morzine. Expect vibrant rock colours, safe cliffside paths and even a daring glass walkway you can try.

Wander through ancient beech woodland then descend 110 m via steps and bridges anchored in the rock and follow information panels explaining how glaciers and erosion sculpted the cliff faces. You might spot chamois and giant “giant’s cauldrons” swirling in the gorge below.

The site has welcomed visitors since 1893, when local joiner Jean Bochaton built staircases and walkways to give access to the river. By 1908 it was officially protected as a geological treasure. Since 2012 it's part of the UNESCO Chablais Geopark. In 2020 a glass viewpoint, the “Pas du Diable”, was added, this is a thrilling 50m high perch over the gorge.

Today you can enjoy a well-maintained, family-friendly route open from the end of March to the end of September every year. It's perfect whatever the weather warm and refreshing in summer, atmospheric in rain and very manageable for most visitors, aside from the steps and vertical drops.

You’ll finish with a rewarding return through the forest and perhaps a stop at the picnic area or visitor centre. With around 50,000 visitors each season, the site is lively yet never overcrowded: a friendly, unforgettable glimpse into the raw natural power visible in the Chablais region.

5. Cascade des Brochaux

The Cascade des Brochaux is a stunning waterfall located above Les Lindarets, the charming "goat village". Just a 1h30 walk from Avoriaz, or 30 minutes from Les Lindarets.

This is a great day out for the whole family when the heat hits the Portes du Soleil, the beautiful meadows that surround the waterfall are ideal for a picnic and there are restaurants open in the summer nearby.

Access this cascade from Les Lindarets, direction Avoriaz and take the Col de la Joux Verte.

Depending on the weather conditions, this waterfall is accessible all year.
