Every summer France is gripped by the biggest and best cycle race in Europe - Le Tour de France.
The Alps have played a large part in the race over the years with the gruelling mountain climbs providing some of the most exciting spectacles of the event. The route changes slightly each year, taking in different towns and villages along the way.
You can guarantee that it will be avidly watched in bars and cafés around the country with everyone joining in to cheer on the famous yellow jersey!
This year Stage 10 will begin in Morzine, descending towards Lake Geneva before heading to the hills alongside the Dranse d'Abondance river and their first climb. They'll cycle through Thonon before a steady climb towards Vailly, followed by a descent to Taninges and from there the riders head through Cluses and Sallanches, before the gruelling climb towards Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, and then onwards up to Megeve and the Altiport finish.
Where & when
If you're staying in Avoriaz or its surrounding area on 12th July 2022 you can watch the "grand depart" if you can get to the centre of Morzine where the stage starts and heads off towards Thonon - but it will be fast and furious. We'd be more inclined to head down the valley towards Sallanches and Cluses to watch the riders as they race through, or position yourself on the route up to Saint-Gervais for slower paced viewing (uphill and the riders will be a little more tired!). There will be road closures so best to check before you depart where is the best spot to head to.
